Top 10 Types Of Perms
The high demand for various achieved looks of waves and curls has created a need for many different types of perms. At one point, perms were once associated with the appearance of a poodle but that is simply not the case anymore. Various perms now, whether soft, bouncy or tight curls can help to add a bit of dimension to your personality.
Permanent waves are created by treating the hair with specific chemicals that manipulate the structure of the follicles of hair. This process can enable someone who has been born with pin-straight hair to enjoy bouncy, luscious waves or curls.
In ancient days, women would curl their hair with paper or wrap it around wooden sticks, add a mud layer and bake in the sun. Thankfully, modern day types of perms have certainly come a long way.
Today, the hair is wrapped around specific sized rods and then chemically treated. Different types of perms will use different rods and various chemicals to achieve a desired result.
- Body Wave Perm – These are very loose perms that offer a slight wave. They are fabulous for women who want to add volume and movement to their long locks. This process uses very large rods so there is no risk of a tight curl forming.
- Multi-textured Perm – These types of perms are used for someone who wants a very natural and non-symmetrical look. Various sizes of rods are used so that the outcome is not one uniform size of curl.
- Root Perms – A root perm is really ideal for anyone that has straight or flat hair of any length to help add lift at the root.
-
Stack Perms – Women who have hair that is all one length find stack perms quite helpful to crate a look of layers without actually cutting their hair.
- Spiral Perms – The size of each spiral curl with these types of perms is reliant on the size of the rod, chemicals that are used and the way that the hair is wrapped around the rod by the hairstylist. This technique usually uses long perm rods, offering an end result of cascading curls that have plenty of bounce. The curls are generally tight and when pulled straight, they spring back into shape.
- Gentle Wavy Perms – A soft, wavy look is achieved by changing the structure of the hair. These types of perms are often used to add a bit more body to the person's hair without committing to a more drastic wave or curl.
- Partial Spiral Perms – This is a technique that adds curl only to the lower ends of the hair, leaving the top portion still straight. These are usually used on people with at least medium length to long hair that do not wish to curl the ends of their hair everyday.
- Volumizing Perms – These types of perms are ideal for any hair length, adding texture and volume and bringing dull, lifeless hair to life. It turns hair glamorous and bouncy.
- Weave Perm – This is a useful perm when someone wants only a few curls in their hair but the rest of it left straight. It creates texture to only the designated pieces of hair.
- Straightening Perms – Not all types of perms have to result in curls or waves. Straightening perms are performed without the use or rods and only chemicals are applied to the hair, combing them through and keeping the strands pulled very straight. The result is straight hair for those that started out with curls or waves.
